Mornings can be the most chaotic time of day. One way to make them easier is to evaluate the things you do each morning and look for simple ways to streamline the process. For example, move your keys to a hook near the door so you’re never late because you can’t find them. Keep your phone on a charger overnight so you aren’t scrambling around looking for it on your way out of the house. And what about your breakfast and beverage?
Here are some tips to make breakfast (and therefore morning) easier.
Cut and cover fruit or put out oatmeal packets in cereal bowls the night before and set a programmable coffee maker at bedtime so your coffee is ready when you come to the kitchen.
Whether you begin your day with a steaming cup of Columbian Roast or a fragrant pot of Earl Grey, why not set up your morning brew station? Here’s how: First, consider the location of the station itself. Ideally, it should be near your water source, whether you pull water from the tap or from the fridge. Setting up near the water eliminates unnecessary steps and reduces the chance of spills.
Next, allocate storage space near the station for all the things associated with your morning ritual. Whether it’s a cabinet above or a drawer below, you’ll want accessories such as mugs, spoons, and filters close at hand rather than across the room.
Once you’ve chosen your storage spot near the water source, keep the coffee, tea, strainers, sweeteners, and other brewing accessories together in a box or basket so they all move as a single unit. Creating a “kit” makes them easily accessible and prevents individual items from migrating to the back of the cabinet.
Making a few small changes to your current morning routine, streamlines the process, cuts out extra steps and makes cleanup easy, which all adds up to a smoother morning.
