Organization often requires creative problem-solving, which is the most fun part of my job. When my dear friend and colleague Sara Fisher wanted a container in her SUV to toss straw paper, empty Starbucks cups and gum wrappers, we came up with this.
She had purchased this adorable gift box (with handles) at The Container Store for two bucks but wasn't sure how exactly to use it. We tried a few different spots, including setting it on the floor, between the seats and ON the seat, but in every case the box was too easily tipped over while driving. We needed it to be easily accessible and stable.
Then it came to us -- we lifted the head rest off the seat, slipped the post of the head rest through the hole in the box handle and pushed the head rest back down. VOILA! Instant mobile trash can! And because the box is suspended through a hole in the cardboard handle, it just swings right around to the back side of the seat and out of the way when she needs space for a passenger.
I just love inexpensive fun solutions to common problems. What have you done at your house that falls into the category of creative organization or problem-solving?
